With 2700 new homes, new residents with families will need school places. The challenge here is that all the secondary schools in the area are full and there is little spare capacity across local primary schools.
In order to meet demand, the plan is to build two new primary schools – one 2FE and one 3FE primary school along with one 6FE 11-18 secondary school. HCC Education planners have indicated that this additional provision will be sufficienct to cater for the town's needs for the foreseeable future.
There has been a delay in the commencement of the building of the two new primary schools and secondary school. This is largely to do with the delay in land acquisition from Hertfordshire Country Council to the Consortium of builders. Land swap is planned to take place in the Autumn of 2016.
Timescales are as follows:
- 2FE Primary School - Opening for September 2018
- 3FE Primary School - Opening September 2019
- 6FE Secondary School - Opening September 2019
